Benefit of listing ifIndex number?

Apart from making it easier for development I’m wondering what the reason behind listing the ifIndex number. I don’t think it’s commonly used and in my mind probably doesn’t need to be in the forefront? Thoughts?

ifIndex 508 in this example.

I’m not fussed about dropping it but if we do, we should provide some form of ‘debug’ output a user can click so we output the ports entry so people can quickly associate a port id with the ifIndex (we also should have the same for devices).

Hi laf,
I would love to see it getting removed from this section as it’s just confusing. I am not sure about the “Device MIB associations” section as it’s completely empty in my setup but maybe a good place to have the interface name to ifindex linkage overview and maybe some exclamation if it’s no longer consistent?

The mib section is totally unrelated so we shouldn’t put it there. I don’t think we need more than a little tooltip with the debug output for people.
