Alert on specific State

Hello everyone,

I’m struggling with setting up a somewhat specific alert.
I currently have Aruba in VSF mode (Stacking) that allows multiple switches seen as 1 is the same switch.

I’m trying to set up an alert so that if a member of the stack goes down, I’ll be alerted.
Currently the only 2 pieces of information that allow me to identify it in the SNMP feedback is on the Inventory side or in PowerSupply. The best its inventory.

But I can’t find any way to alert on one of the 2 sources of information.
Even after analyzing these 2 links, I haven’t found a solution.

Example:
Without VSF :

With VSF:

If someone has already had the case I’d be interested. Thanks you for your help

Hello,
Anyone have an idea please?

Lots of vendors have a “state” sensor to show stacking status. Is there something like that in the Aruba MIBs?

Hello,

Thank you for your response. I have retrieved the MIB, but I must admit that this is the first time I have seen it split into so many files. Without guidance, I don’t know what to look for or how to proceed with all this. Could you help me with this, please?

According to my research, the most relevant files seem to be hpicfVsfVC.mib, hpSwitchStack.mib, and hpStack.mib.

However, I don’t know how to use them.

For me, the file that contains the information I need to get the status of my VSF will be the hpicfVsfVC.mib file.

But I don’t understand how to use it in LNMS.

I was able to identify the OID and query, and I injected it into the customOID.

Is it possible to track the values and their corresponding meaning in LNMS? How can I create alerts based on this? Do I absolutely need to use SQL queries for this?

Thank you for your help.

Hello,
small up plz, i’am always blocked.

Try looking in the customoids table to see if you can see the data you want, you can then use the fields from that table in the alert builder.

With the Custom OID feature, you can track the values but not he corresponding meaning. All Custom OID does it poll a single OID and it expects a numeric response only. If you need the corresponding values, you would have to develop proper device support.

You shouldn’t have to use SQL queries. If you go to your device, click the settings Cog then go to Custom OID, you should see the last value it polled.

Hopefully, it’s working properly and you see the value you expect. Looking at your MIB screenshot, it looks like 3,4 and 5 are the expected/good values, so you could edit this OID and set 6 as the high alert threshold and 2 as the low alert threshold. Make sure Alerts Enabled is checked.

Then, go to Alert Rules and click Create rule from collection. Search for customoid. You should see 4 options.

Add ‘CustomOID over limit’ and ‘CustomOID under limit’. Rename as appropriate and probably limit it to devices or device groups.

Good morning, gentlemen,

Thank you very much for your feedback. Sorry for the delay, there’s some urgent business to deal with in the meantime.
I’m going to look in detail at what you’ve indicated to see if I’ve managed to make something that might meet my need.

I’ll keep you informed
