I have valid alerts. The widget on the dashboard shows Alerts(3) but it is blank. I can see the rules are red under “Alert Rules” and they do randomly show up on the Alerts widget and Alerts Notification but disappear without a minute and are gone for minutes again. Any ideas?
Are you sure that the cause of the alerts is not intermittent ?
For example an ICMP alert to say a device couldn’t be pinged could be alerting and then on the next polling period not alerting anymore - the dashboard widget may be a little slow at refreshing.
Check Alerts->Alert History to see if there are any alerts that are alerting then quickly clearing, or go to the device in question and check it’s alert history there.
Because some alerts can be of a transient nature I have most of my alert notifications set with a 6 minute delay so that I only receive an email/push notification if a specific alert is active for two consecutive polling periods. If I don’t do this I’ll get a few false positive alerts each day. (They do still show up in the alert history log though, even if the notifications aren’t sent)
