Check_mrpe - local check works, telnet works... LibreNMS server check doesn't

Trying to add a service using check_mrpe on the LibreNMS server

-locally the check works (on remote server)
-telnet from the LibreNMS server to the remote host works, I can see correct output under <<<mrpe>>>
-from the LibreNMS server ./check_mrpe -H IP -p 6556 -a NAME doesn’t work, just hangs

any ideas?

re-installed said test client to be centos 7 not debian 11.

seeing the same thing.

though TCP dump is showing traffic… maybe the check_mrpe script is the issue… needs more investigation
