How does a poller work when it loses its connectivity with the central server?

I want to know How exactly a poller works. Do a Poller needs permanent network connectivity with the central server (RRD and MySQL)?
I want to know what will happen if a Poller loses its network connectivity with the central server. Does it continue collecting data, and when the primary server is reachable transmitting data?

For example, I have a LibreNMS in my headquarters and many branches.
What happens if one of the branches loses its connection to the headquarters? Am I lost my data for the time frame of network connectivity failed between the branches with the headquarters or not?

A continuous connectivity is required at the moment. The software will reconnect after outages but all data during the outage is lost. The poller does not save the data to the central server during outages.
