How to create an alert rule if an interface was down?

Hello ,

I really need to know how to create an alert rule for a device I mean if this device or an interface went down ?

Please I really need your help ?

Best Regards

Always check “create rule from collection” - there are loads of pre-made alerts for you…here is one for ports going down:

Be aware that this alert would generate a lot of alerts on a large network, you probably need to restrict the switches which this rule applies to. (I assume switch ports going to important devices like servers, not client PC’s etc)

For whole devices going down use the “Device Down! Due to no ICMP response.” or “SNMP not responding on Device - Check on SNMP Service - Device marked Down!” alerts or both - available in the same alert rule collection.

Thanks A lot ,

I really hope you can help me in that when I click on acknowledge but when a service or a port going down I didn’t receive anything ? is there an issue or something that I need to do ?

Best Regards

I don’t use the acknowledge function for alerts myself but I believe that silences further alerts from that device until after the problem is fixed.

If you’re not receiving any alert via email/push notification but you are seeing the alert listed in Alerts->Notifications, make sure your alert transports have been set up and use the test button beside the transport(s) to make sure test alerts are delivered.

And then confirm that the alerts have the correct alert transports specified for who you want the alerts to go to.
