Can someone explain the purpose of the map page? The obvious is that it creates a map of your network, I get that part. The issue I have is that this page puts all my networks on the same page and some of the networks are just labels and lines on top of one another. You can’t make use of the data on the screen. I can click and drag, but everything moves and snaps back together. I have a hard time believing this is operating as designed.

Use the custom maps to draw out the maps you want. The one you are talking about struggles with large and complicated networks.
I made a custom map, once, and it was painful. Had something to do with spacing/alignment of the links between devices. I wanted them in a certain position but then had to move all the lines/links again.
I am developing this Librenms-dash to create a feature rich dashboard and map. Please give it a try.

The grid size setting in custom maps is not obvious.
There is a lot of room for custom map improvement if people wanted to contribute.
