I apologize if this has been asked before, but is there a way to easily change Port Description items from the WebUI and maybe even lock a Port Description from being changed by the discovery process?
For Example;
GigabitEthernet1 on router1 has a port description of “Core: Router 2 Port #1”.
Later on down the line, the line, Router 2 is moved to another port, for example, TenGigabitEthernet1, and has the same description of “Core: Router 2 Port #1”.
After sometime later, GigabitEthernet1 is removed entirely from the device and only exists as TenGigabitEthernet1. You still want the old aggregate data to show up for the “Core” Device list, but since the port is deleted and gone, the description can’t be updated. So now you have two entries in the “Core” list that say exactly the same thing. That seems confusing, so is there a way to edit the description of an old port manually so that it says something like: “Core: Router 2 Port #1 (deprecated)”, and maybe even provide a lock button so that the Port description entry can’t be modified automatically by an outside process (discovery) for example?
