A part of our network devices was about to be powered down due to maintenance last weekend, so we added the device dependencies for a couple of access layer switches and distribution layer switches.
We scheduled the maintenance window only on the distribution layer switches (as these are the parents) for multiple other access layer switches. We thought that, when doing so, we would not receive any alerts as the parent devices were scheduled for maintenance. Unfortunately, we did receive alerts for all access layer switches.
Is this expected behavior? Or should we not have received any emails for the child devices going down?
